From the research stages it became profound that musical artist websites followed a very similar structure and therefore had many conventions that were generally followed across the broad rage of existing websites analysed both inside the disco genre from Mika to outside the disco genre for bands such as Fickle Friends and popular artists such as Jess Glynn. This gave a clear platform of conventions that should be followed in order for the website I created to appear professional and part of the King Pink brand. These conventions established in existing media products consist of, large artist titles, close up pictures of the artist, tour and about pages on the website, links to purchase latest music as well as social media-of which became apparent in the more modern artists.
The original website designs followed very little of the obvious website conventions of existing media products such as falling to have tour dates, an about page and social media links which are frequently found on existing pages, even for older less relevant artists such as Madonna. The older disco artist such as Earth wind and fire as well as the more modern disco artists such as Jess Gylnn all feature a simple home page of a photograph of the artist, the name and the current single the artist has released. This convention was followed upon the development of the website as well as adding social media links which are heavily featured across all current media products I analysed in the genre. I took great influence from the conventions of the Jess Glynn website as shown. However I chose to take challenge the conventions of the scrolling home page which is a popular form of disco web pages and have separate pages within the site for the other aspects of the website such as the store, tour and about pages, in order to give the audience/user a larger page to explore and relate to the artist.
Social media again is a website convention I chose to comply with due to the heavy reliance artist have in the modern day to promote themselves on it. There is little conventions challenged across the website as traditionally the existing media products analysed all fulfilled the same conventions just varying the positioning, colour scheme and artist name. The only real convention challenged was that the website opened onto a home page and the rest of the information was stored on other paged across the website, which although doesn’t mirror any of the disco genre existing products, it is not an unseen approach to an artist website across other genres such as Eminem.
